Even if you haven’t done much as a professional actor, you’ll still need a resume’. This is what actually goes on the back of your headshots for casting directors to look at. Not only are casting directors viewing your photos to see if you look right for the part, they also need to know what you’ve done professionally in order to see if you can handle the part. One good thing to note is that casting directors don’t tend to focus too much about your resume’ when it comes to commercials. Commercials are based on “looks” and as long as you’ve done some work, if you have the right look, you may get called in for an audition.
Just know that having a resume’ is very important. You never want to lie about roles you’ve never done. Even though it’s a multi-billion dollar business, people find out very quickly if you’re not a person of your word. And guess what? If you lie in this business, people tend to not want to work with you, so stay truthful; this business is smaller than you think. If you’re just starting out, put down what you’ve done, even if it’s small. School play? Local theater? Put it on you’re resume’, it’s a start.
If you are a member of the two main unions, SAG and AFTRA, always put it on your resume’. Again, letting casting directors know that you’re in the unions will help you a great deal in the long run.
