Yep, that’s right, you guessed it. You probably already know that you shouldn’t dare think about coming to Hollywood to pursue an acting career if you have not taken the time to put some money away. Most aspiring actors find themselves heading back home because they simply didn’t save up enough resources to last long enough to get their career going. Nope, it wasn’t because they weren’t talented. It wasn’t because they wanted to give up. It was because they didn’t have enough money to last long enough to get their career started.
And guess what? California is expensive to live. Unless you have a distant cousin or aunt or family members already in Cali, you will need a place to live…and that costs money. Listen, I’m not here to discourage you. I WANT you to last long enough to work professionally. I just want you to know the realities of what you need to be prepared for when you get here, that’s all.
I’d suggest having at least 6 months to one year of “cushion” money to keep you afloat until you book your first acting job. Rent doesn’t come cheap so start saving up now. It will be worth it when you get here. A good support system helps, however, even if you have friends or family to stay with, you’ll still have to eat! You’ll still need a car…and gas!
