Acting in Movies: Having a Movie Star Mentality
All your life you’ve watched actors acting in movies, now it’s your turn. Acting in movies isn’t hard. But then again, it isn’t easy either. The good thing is that even though the odds may seem stacked up against you–we’re here to let you know that you can do it. If you’ve made it up in your mind that you’re gonna be a professional actor, it’s time you started developing a “movie star mentality”. Please note that having a movie star mentality doesn’t mean you are to go off and start acting all conceited. No, what we mean is that in order for you to be successful as a professional actor in the movies, you simply need to start thinking BIG.
Hollywood always does things on a grand scale so get used to it. They spend big money (millions of dollars) in order to see an even BIGGER return. So in many ways, you must also think big in order to see a bigger return. You do this by believing in yourself and not settling for less. Think big. If you believe you’ll make it big, people will perceive you that way and bigger doors will start to open for you. You reap what you sow. If you “sow” big things, you’ll “reap” big things.
However, the key is to keep everything in the proper perspective. On the one hand you can’t “short change” yourself, on the other hand you can’t think so highly of yourself that you come across as unapproachable. You also shouldn’t go off and spend all your money on clothes trying to look “big” when you don’t have your rent paid. You have to find the balance between the two. You may start off auditioning for small roles but it doesn’t mean you can’t still have that movie star mentality. In fact, you should always recognize that there are no small roles. You’re an actor. Think big and that small role will open up doors for you. ”Movie star” will be written all over you on screen. People will notice but if first starts with how you perceive yourself.
