Should I Go to School for Acting?
Going to School for Acting
Been thinking about going to school for acting? Learning more about the craft of acting is important to a successfull acting career. One thing you need to realize though and it’s a tough fact to state–going to school for acting will not guarantee you stardom or a great acting career. School will be good for you. You can major in theater in college or you can take acting classes through an acting coach or private school. Either way, learning more aboout acting is good.
College Bound
The good thing about going to college as a theater arts major is that you’re in school and will end up with a degree. We encourage that. In fact, we encourage you to finish school (in any major) because if by any strange chance (and this is not meant to discourage you) you may change your mind about pursuing an acting career–you will have your degree to fall back on. You can teach acting or simply get a good job in your related field. You may want to do something entirely different all together. You’ll be glad you got your degree.
Acting Classes
Taking an acting class or two is a good way to see if you really want to be an actor. An acting class will help you get more familiar with the discipline of becoming a professional actor. There are many types of acting classes to choose from depending on what part of the world you live in. As you may know, there are many in Los Angeles. There method acting classes that focus on the Meisner, Stanislavski, Uta Hagen, etc., technique. There’s also the “no method” acting classes. There are private coaches and seminars, and workshops all in the name of acting. There’s monolgue technique, scene study, improv technique, private coaching and commerical worshops. There are many others.
We suggest you look around, sit in some classes and find the class that’s right for you. So, should you go to school for acting? Yes. Whether college or an acting coach–school will be great for you.
